The regional towns of Ballarat and Bendigo are the hub of the Goldfields region and they are so steeped in gold history, you’d be forgiven for thinking the streets were shiny.
Ballarat is home to one of the most extraordinary attractions this country has to offer: Sovereign Hill. This reenactment village brings history alive to kids more than any other we have experienced and it’s easy to spend a couple of days here.
From Ballarat to Bendigo, the Goldfields Track runs through stunning forests and open bushland from and offers spectacular mountain biking and bushwalking.
Then the regional centre of Bendigo offers the chance to go down the Central Deborah Goldmine, throw your own pot at the historic Bendigo Pottery and ride a Talking Tram. Kids will be enthralled in this region of history and discovery.
