The Murray River has been the centre for commerce and controversy in this part of Australia every since white folk settled here. This means it has a rich and colourful history full of larrikins, sharks and river boat captains. Many of their stories are brought to life in towns like Swan Hill, Wentworth, Mildura and Echuca. The latter, of which, was featured on a very popular TV series a while back: All The Rivers Run.
Amber and I watch this entire series before visiting this region and I am so glad we did because it bought the stories alive for Amber, especially when we saw the star of the show, the PS Pervensy, as we rounded the bend on the PS Canberra.
The aforementioned tourist towns are well worth a visit, but the river can be enjoyed in many ways. Camp on her banks, ski around her bends or even ride along cattle paths and follow her path. Without her waters, this area would be barren. With them, this region is full of life and family attractions.
